Introduction to Author and Piece As Presented During the GVT Art Auction
Craig Miller is a local businessman who owns and operates Serenity Now Outfitters in Downtown Lewisburg, WV. An avid fly fisherman, he also dabbles in photography and other expressive forms of art. Encouraged by his parents and teachers alike, limited resistance occurred at age 5 when he arranged a dinosaur theme with permanent marker on the chest freezer. His father wasn’t too impressed with the blue stegosaurus.
“The Haida Smallie” is a pen and ink drawing that blends the local culture of WV with that of the Haida artform of the Pacific Northwest. The smallmouth bass is a highly desirable game fish species on the Greenbrier River, while the Haida art form expresses a subsistent living based upon the earth around us. Throw in a little Polynesian and Surf Art influence, this native WV fish is transformed into a unique piece that is both striking and heartfelt.
